How Fibre Laser Abaltion Works

Laser cleaning uses controlled pulses of concentrated light energy directed at the surface being treated. Contaminants such as rust, paint, oil, oxides and carbon absorb the laser energy and are rapidly removed from the surface through ablation. Depending on the material and application, the removed material can be captured using appropriate extraction equipment.

Pulsed vs. Continuous Wave (CW) Lasers

  • Pulsed Laser Systems: Pulsed lasers deliver short bursts of concentrated energy, allowing for precise control over the cleaning process. They are well suited to applications such as rust removal, automotive components, classic car restoration, paint and coating removal, precision part cleaning and other applications where heat input needs to be carefully controlled.

  • Continuous Wave (CW) Lasers: Continuous wave lasers deliver a continuous beam of laser energy and are generally suited to high-throughput applications and rapid material removal. They can be used for applications such as structural steel preparation, heavy machinery and large surface areas, but typically introduce greater heat into the workpiece than pulsed systems. Prestige Laser Cleaning currently specialises in pulsed laser cleaning.
